New project alongside the Third Year Acting Company! Starting January 2019, I will be taking part of a new production of Oh! What A Lovely War.
The musical
Originally produced by Joan Littlewood at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, London in 1963, Oh What A Lovely War is a satirical masterpiece on the First World War, told through songs and documents in form of a seaside pierrot entertainment of the period. This show was devised by Littlewood's Theatre Workshop and it was the result of close co-operation between writer, actors and director, where the whole team participated in detailed research into the period and in the creative task of bringing their material to life in theatrical terms. It won the acclaim of audiences and critics and the Grand Prix of the Theatre des Nations festival in Paris in 1963 and has become a classic of the modern theatre.
The production
This show is formed by a strong group of actor that gather their experience and training alongside their skills of music and dance to create this new edition of Oh! What A Lovely War. We have adapted the script and incorporated a visual style of the 21st century, originating from the styles of pantomimes and taking inspiration from drag culture and merging it with the historical knowledge and reflection that this plays offers.
